Wageningen in 20 years: what do you envision?
Wageningen is developing an environmental vision for the city. This sets out what the city and its surrounding areas should look like in 20 years’ time, and identifies opportunities in the areas of housing, community life, health, the economy, climate, mobility and sustainability.
Environmental vision ready for adoption by the municipal council
We have drawn up an environmental vision. An environmental impact assessment (EIA) has also been prepared by a consultancy firm. Everyone was invited to submit their views on both documents. The vision and the EIA have been updated and refined to take account of all the feedback received. In May 2026, the documents will be submitted to the municipal council for adoption. Click on the buttons below to read the environmental vision and the EIA.

A single environmental vision for Wageningen
Under the Environment Act, every municipality must have a municipality-wide environmental vision by 1 January 2027 at the latest. Wageningen’s environmental vision has been developed in three stages:
1. vision for the rural area, adopted in 2020
2. vision for built-up areas, adopted in 2024
3. municipality-wide environmental vision, now available.
The municipality-wide spatial vision comprises the vision for rural areas and the vision for built-up areas. The ambitions and objectives have remained the same. However, the text of the vision for rural areas has been made shorter and clearer. The maps and photographs in the rural area vision have also been updated. The regulations on sustainable energy generation have been moved to an implementation framework for sustainable energy generation. The council adopted this implementation framework on 24 March 2026.
An environmental impact assessment accompanies the environmental vision
An environmental vision sets out a framework. We cannot rule out in advance that policies resulting from the environmental vision may lead to environmental impacts or consequences for Natura 2000 areas. The council must therefore be aware in advance of any potential effects. This is done through an environmental impact assessment.

In totaal deelden bijna 1.500 mensen hun mening. Dat waarderen we enorm! Het helpt ons de visie nog beter aan te laten sluiten op hoe inwoners onze stad in 2045 graag zien.
Wij hebben alle reacties samengevat in een verslag. Benieuwd?
