Wageningen Presents Final Version of Mobility Environmental Program
Wageningen has completed the final version of its Environmental Program for Mobility. This document outlines what actions we will take in the field of traffic and transport within the city—how we will work together to ensure that Wageningen remains accessible, safe, and livable in the future, and what is needed to achieve that.
On October 30, we will present the draft and explain its contents. As a resident, you are also invited to share your feedback during this walk-in meeting at the WICC.
The Environmental Program for Mobility builds on earlier public consultation efforts, such as the Inner City Vision and the Citizens’ Assembly. We believe the program is a good translation of all the input we received—both during the extensive participation process for the Inner City Vision, and from the citizens’ agreement and the broad support from the City Council to design the urban area in such a way that Wageningen residents aged 8 and older can participate in traffic independently and safely.
Many ideas from residents have been included, such as more accessible sidewalks, additional bicycle parking, fewer cars, and more greenery in the city. The feedback we have received on the draft version has been used to fine-tune and finalize the plan.
Why an Environmental Program for Mobility?
Wageningen is growing. More residents and more housing also mean more traffic. This puts pressure on the city’s livability and accessibility. The Environmental Program for Mobility addresses these challenges. It prioritizes walking, cycling, public transport, and shared mobility. The goal is to create more space for greenery, safety, and places for people to connect.
Alderman Erik-Jan Bijleveld:
“Mobility is about much more than just traffic. It’s about how we live together in Wageningen: safely, healthily, and with space for one another. If we make smart choices now, our city will remain a pleasant and accessible place to live in the future.”
